Closing event in 2022: Solvation Science in Electrolysis

Facharbeiten in Solvation Science

The aim of the project SolvationScience@School is to get secondary school students interested in the interdisciplinary research field of Solvation Science and in studying chemistry at an early stage.

Together with the Chair of Didactics of Chemistry at the Ruhr University Bochum, we launched the SolvationScience@School project last year. Two particularly motivated pupils were awarded prizes for their Facharbeiten on the topic "Solvation Science in Disinfection". This year, particularly good Facharbeiten on the framework topic "Solvation Science in Electrolysis" will be promoted and awarded prizes.

Information

For interested teachers, a first information event with subsequent workshop took place on September 20th, 2021, at the Ruhr-University Bochum. In addition to technical insights into the topics of Solvation Science and electrolysis, general information on participation was explained and initial ideas for possible specialized Facharbeiten on the framework topic "Solvation Science in Electrolysis" were generated together in a workshop.

Facharbeiten on the above-mentioned topic of the students can be submitted to resolv(at)rub.de until 30.05.2022. Facharbeiten are also welcome from schools that have not previously participated in the information event or have not applied for financial support. The final event, in which the participating pupils will present their Facharbeiten and discuss them with scientists of the Cluster of Excellence RESOLV and, if applicable, with participants from other schools, is planned for September 26th 2022.

Awards and funding

Thanks to a generous donation from Dr. Klaus Engel and his wife, the participating schools have the possibility to apply for a material grant up to a maximum of 1000 € per school in order to supplement the equipment for the execution of the specialized Facharbeiten at the schools, in addition to prizes for the awarded pupils. The corresponding application form must be submitted to resolv(at)rub.de by December 19th, 2021.

Additional projects

With the exhibition "Völlig losgelöst", RESOLV, together with the Didactics of Chemistry at the Ruhr University Bochum, already actively approached the target group of school students in 2016 in order to fascinate them for the interdisciplinary field of Solvation Science.
