Down under innovation – EPR Research at the Australian National University

Leaving the familiar routines of a PhD behind, I spent three months at the Australian National University developing a new EPR resonator.

 

Beyond the laboratory, the stay offered a refreshing contrast in research culture  marked by openness, accessibility, and a strong emphasis on balance  shaping how I approached both scientific work and everyday academic life. Experiencing this environment firsthand provided a valuable perspective on how research can be organized, communicated, and lived differently.

Simon Lennard Schumann is a PhD student in the group of Prof. Müge Kasanmascheff at TU Dortmund University, where he specializes in electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. His research focuses on EPR method development, advanced EPR instrumentation, and resonator development, with emphasis on combining spectroscopic methodology and hardware innovation.
