Chalcogen Bonding Interactions: Investigation of Solvent Effects
Please discuss your project with a possible supervisor Prof. Dr. Stefan Huber via email stefan.m.huber(at)rub.de before you fill out the application.
About the group and the topic
Non-covalent interactions (NCIs) such as halogen (XB) and chalcogen bonding (ChB) are actively investigated in the field of organocatalysis. A lot of interest lays on the design of novel XB and ChB donors and their charactization in solution by titration methods via NMR or isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC). The objective of this project is the synthesis of novel ChB donors and the evaluation of solvation effects on their interaction strength using the mentioned techniques. In this context, an additional chiral substituent should be implemented in the design aswell.
What they expect from students
We are looking for students with practical lab experience and an interest in organic synthetical chemistry. Experience in quantum chemistry is advantageous but not necessary.
