RESOLV invites on an exciting journey of discovery into the world of science

The interactive exhibition ‘Völlig losgelöst’ (Completely detached) offers insights into top-level international research.

Last Saturday, our travelling exhibition opened with around 100 visitors at the City Hall in Bedburg-Hau – among them representatives of regional and local government and educational institutions in the region. ‘Völlig losgelöst’ will be on display in Bedburg-Hau until November 15th, 2026.

What happens in a research laboratory? Who works there? What questions are the researchers investigating? Which methods do they use? And are they completely ‘detached’ from everyday life? Visitors are invited to embark on an expedition into the exciting world of science and get a fascinating glimpse behind the scenes of cutting-edge research in Germany – conducted by RESOLV, the joint Cluster of Excellence of Ruhr University Bochum and TU Dortmund University, focusing on the role of solvents (Solvation Science).

Using examples from everyday life, the exhibition offers a visually striking illustration of what makes natural science in general, and the study of solutions in particular, such a fascinating experience. The visitors are not merely spectators. The exhibition relies on interaction – visitors do not simply move from exhibit to exhibit, they become part of the exhibition. Within the framework of this interactive concept, children and young people have also the opportunity to experiment for themselves on selected days.

‘Völlig losgelöst’ aims to convey that research does not take place in isolation within the proverbial ivory tower but is closely connected to the pressing issues of our time.

“Children and young people need spaces where they can ask their own questions, think scientifically, and put their ideas to the practical test,” says Erwin Dribusch, head of a local student research center and main organizer. “This exhibition and the associated experiment days create such an opportunity to discover and further develop interests and skills.”
