Prof. Staemmler held a C2 Professorship in Theoretical Chemistry at the Ruhr-University of Bochum from 1982 to 2006, when he retired.  Prof. Staemmler has already amassed ample experience preparing him for the task of ombudsman as he was speaker of the graduate school "Dynamical Processes at Solid Surfaces" at the RUB from 1995 to 2000.
